About this compound
Molecular Specifications
Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is a glycoprotein hormone produced in large quantities during pregnancy by trophoblast cells, and also by certain tumor types. A member of the glycoprotein hormone family alongside LH, FSH, and TSH — all sharing a common 92-amino acid α-subunit — HCG is unique in its 145-amino acid β-subunit, which confers LH receptor specificity and its extended half-life (~24 hours vs. ~1 hour for LH).
LH/CG Receptor and Steroidogenesis
The LH/CG receptor (LHCGR) is a leucine-rich repeat GPCR expressed in Leydig cells (testes), theca and luteal cells (ovaries), and multiple extragonadal sites. LHCGR activation by HCG or LH stimulates Gs-mediated cAMP accumulation and PKA activation, driving transcription of steroidogenic enzymes (StAR, CYP11A1, CYP17A1) and increasing de novo steroid synthesis.
Research Applications
- LH/CG receptor (LHCGR) pharmacology and signaling studies
- Leydig cell steroidogenesis pathway research
- Testosterone and androgen synthesis mechanism studies
- HPG axis integration research — downstream of kisspeptin/GnRH
- Ovarian theca cell biology and folliculogenesis research
- HCG as tumor marker — choriocarcinoma and testicular cancer models
- Sustained LH receptor activation vs. pulsatile LH comparison models
Storage & Handling
Store lyophilized powder at −20°C for long-term stability; short-term 2–8°C is acceptable. Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water; keep refrigerated at 2–8°C after reconstitution and use within typical research timelines.
