About this compound
Molecular Specifications
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide growth hormone secretagogue developed by Novo Nordisk. It is distinguished from earlier GHS compounds (GHRP-2, GHRP-6, hexarelin) by its high selectivity for the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHSR-1a) with minimal stimulation of cortisol, ACTH, and prolactin release — a selectivity profile that makes it a cleaner and more interpretable GH research tool.
GHSR-1a Mechanism
GHSR-1a (the ghrelin receptor) is a Gq/11-coupled GPCR expressed primarily in pituitary somatotrophs, hypothalamic neurons, and multiple peripheral tissues. Ipamorelin mimics endogenous ghrelin at this receptor, stimulating acute pulsatile GH release from pituitary somatotrophs.
Selectivity comparison: GHRP-6 at the same GH-stimulating dose produces significant cortisol increases and prolactin elevation in animal models — side effects absent with ipamorelin at equivalent doses. This selectivity makes ipamorelin the preferred GHSR-1a agonist for isolating GH-specific pathway research.
